The maternal mortality ratio (MMR) in several low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) is alarming. India represents almost 20% of maternal deaths worldwide.
Child mortality is also high, as maternal health is strongly linked to child survival. Evidence suggests that maternal infections are a significant contributor to both severe maternal morbidity and mortality. Healthcare-associated infections play a significant role in the incidence of sepsis within hospital settings. This highlights the importance of infection prevention and control measures within healthcare facilities to reduce the risk of sepsis.
