About Me

I am a researcher focused on improving menstrual health and hygiene for women and adolescent girls globally. My passion for this work grew from the realisation that menstrual health is often overlooked in research, despite its profound impact on health, education, and gender equality. Throughout my career, I have been dedicated to bridging the gap in evidence, using mixed-methods research to develop effective measures and interventions. I aim to empower women and adolescent girls by ensuring they have access to the resources and support they need to manage their menstrual health safely and with dignity.

My journey in this field began with a desire to address the systemic neglect of menstrual health and hygiene in research and policy. Through the development of tools like the Menstrual Practice Needs Scale (MPNS) and large-scale cohort studies such as the Adolescent Menstrual Experiences and Health Cohort (AMEHC), I am working to provide policymakers and donors with concrete data to drive meaningful change. My goal is to transform the experiences of women and girls into evidence that influences policies and interventions to improve their lives.

Current Work & Fellowship Updates

  • In collaboration with my team, I am leading the development of new measurement tools for menstrual health, including the Menstrual Practice Needs Scale Short Form (MPNS-SF) and Rapid (MPNS-R), which help track the availability of resources for menstrual health management.

  • The AMEHC study, a world-first cohort following 2,000 adolescent girls in Bangladesh, continues to track the impact of menstrual health on education, health, and gender equality. This project provides critical evidence on how menstrual health influences school attendance and general well-being.

  • I am also focused on expanding the research on the intersection of menstrual health and adolescent health, working with international partners to ensure that menstrual health issues are fully integrated into global health frameworks.
