Advancing Hygiene Through Evidence and Leadership

RGHI was established to address a critical gap in global health: hygiene is foundational to health and resilience, yet has long been underfunded, fragmented, and insufficiently supported by evidence.

Over the past five years, the Institute has built a distinctive role within the global health ecosystem; advancing research, strengthening leadership, and convening stakeholders to ensure that hygiene evidence informs real-world decisions.

Why This Work Matters Now

As global health priorities evolve, hygiene risks are becoming more complex. Shaped by climate pressures, antimicrobial resistance, and changing patterns of disease.

At the same time, the funding and institutional landscape are shifting. Without stronger evidence and coordination, hygiene risks are becoming further marginalised within global health systems.

RGHI exists to ensure this does not happen.

Our Role

RGHI does not deliver programmes.

It strengthens the system around them.

Through its integrated approach, the Institute helps ensure that:

  • Evidence informs policy and implementation
  • Leadership is developed where it is most needed
  • Fragmented efforts are better aligned

This enables more effective, scalable, and sustainable responses to hygiene challenges.

Looking Ahead

RGHI is now entering its next phase, building on a strong foundation to scale its influence.

The focus is on strengthening systems, deepening leadership, enhancing the translation of evidence into policy and practice, and expanding its role as a trusted convener across the global hygiene ecosystem.

Engaging With RGHI

RGHI is engaging with a small number of partners who recognise the importance of investing in evidence, institutions, and long-term systems change.
