Better Hygiene Science for a Better World

By fostering fundamental change in public health, and by nurturing hygiene science, we are helping address global public health challenges.

Our primary aim is to address gaps in research funding and data availability in the hygiene field. With this clear mission in mind, the Reckitt Global Hygiene Institute (RGHI) is dedicated to conducting focused research on hygiene and hygienic behaviors while bringing together relevant experts to explore how this research can lead to tangible and meaningful changes.

Hygiene Research

We fund research on hygiene interventions and behaviors with the ultimate goal of creating a comprehensive understanding of good hygiene practices, supported by insights from behavioral, epidemiological, and economic perspectives.

Collaboration

We bring together key stakeholders and constituencies to collaborate on implementing hygiene insights into sound policies and effective intervention guidance. By bridging the gap between research and action, we can foster positive and lasting impacts on global public health.

Policy & Change

By leveraging our research findings and our convening power, we advocate for evidence-based policies and solutions that prioritize hygiene interventions as a cost-effective means of substantively improving public health globally.

By bridging critical gaps
in hygiene knowledge and understanding, we are making a positive impact on global health.

The Challenge

The Reckitt Global Hygiene Institute (RGHI) is driven by our mission to alleviate the burden of communicable diseases and disabilities caused by poor hygiene practices. Each year, millions of people suffer from preventable illnesses like diarrheal disease, respiratory infections, and infectious blindness due to inadequate hygiene. But there’s hope: hygienic behavior change is an affordable and powerful intervention that can significantly improve the health outcomes of people and societies around the world.

  • 1.9 million

children under age 5 die each year due to acute respiratory infections

  • 2,000+

children under age 5 die of diarrheal disease daily

  • $2.9-$5.3 billion USD

in productivity lost due just to trachoma annually

What we do…

RGHI is a private foundation established in 2020 with a founding donation of $25 million. Our primary aim is to address gaps in research funding and data availability within the hygiene field. With a clear mission in mind, RGHI is dedicated to conducting focused research on hygiene and hygienic behaviors while bringing together relevant experts to explore how this research can lead to tangible and meaningful changes.
